Taste and See

WOW its been awhile....Ive always known journaling/ blogging is just not my thing. However I read this devotional today and it struck me in a way that I just wanted to share.

Today’s Devotional: Acquired Taste

Have you ever acquired a taste for something you now can’t imagine living without?

When you’re teaching yourself to appreciate a certain food or drink you have to commit to the process. Sometimes your first few experiences are terrible, but by persevering, you notice subtitle flavors and sensations that you had previously missed.

For me, drinking coffee is a chore; I have to load it down with sugar and cream just to make it palatable. But for those that have acquired the taste for coffee, a perfectly brewed cup can be the highlight of their day.

In Psalm 34, the psalmist writes that we should “Taste and see that the LORD is good.” Our devotional this morning from Day by Day urges us to take the psalmists advice and set about on the journey of acquiring a taste for the LORD:

Now, would we say that our “taste” for the Lord is an acquired taste? I would say so. For it is only through the contact with the Holy Spirit that we even begin to discover what the Psalmist is talking about when he writes, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

So how does one taste of the Lord? In Psalms 119, we read, “I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” To taste of the Lord, simply means to walk with Him and according to His word. It means meditating on the things of God–chewing on them, if you will. And it means experiencing God in an up close and personal way as we keep our feet from evil and purposely set our hearts on the purposes of our Maker.

In time, our acquired taste is one that we cannot hardly go a day without. We enjoy the pleasantry of His company. We enjoy the warmth of His filling. We enjoy the aroma of His sweet Spirit as He embraces us in all His goodness. We have grown so accustomed to tasting the Lord on a daily basis that, when we do not spend time with Him, we soon feel the effects thereof.

Do you feel like you’ve “acquired a taste” for the Lord?

As I sat with my Dr. Pepper from Sonic (can Dr. Pepper is NOT the same) and my cell phone on the other. I know that they are two things I have a HARD time going a day without... in some cases a few hours without.... I have been a Christian for 14 years (solidly following him for 12 ;) and I still feel like I haven't acquired a taste for the Lord. There are days in my life that go by that I give Him little more than a passing prayer....and for that I am saddened.....I desire more. I desire an addiction that wont let a day, even an hour pass without that pulling need for Him. As I grow and learn in my life and walk I know there are ups and downs to everything and right now I am desiring a fast upward sprint toward desire and addiction for a DAILY relationship and need for Him!!

Can you beat me?

Women get a bad rap for raggn' on their men, mostly because often we complain more than we praise. I would like to set out a challenge for you to tell me how awesome your husband/boyfriend is. And maybe let them read it ;)
Try and beat me, if you can.

My husband is so awesome.....most mornings he gets our son up and fed before I am out of bed (sometimes even dressed)
My husband is so awesome...when he warms the car up he will turn the seat heater on on my side b/c he knows I like to be toasty
My husband is so awesome....if he's out between 2-4, he will stop at Sonic and get me a Dr. Pepper
My husband is so awesome.....he will often lay on my side of the bed (if I am not already there) to warm it up for me!
My husband is so awesome.....he has gotten two subbing type jobs to fill in the gaps during hard times financially
My husband is so awesome....I can go out "just for me" with my friends regularly
My husband is so awesome....he pre=programs my GPS for me when I need to go somewhere new
My husband is so awesome....I can leave our son with him (at any age) and don't worry one bit

What Can't you do

In an attempt to get more "bloggerish" -is that even a word? I want to start doing some more conversational posts.

Lets Start here:
What's something "normal" that you can't do?

For instance I CAN NOT make a lowercase K

I can not use an electric can opener

I have a hard time using the remote (or almost anything with my left hand)

Now your turn.....

McQueens Road Trip

Jeremy is in CO this week for YFC camp and Caleb and I stayed behind. BUT we sent Lightening McQueen with Jeremy to document the trip for us.

So far he made a pit stop at Wendys for a Dr. Pepper

Then he arrived in beautiful Colorado Springs. What a view

Hanging out at camp on a tree

Lightning, meet hail. Hail, meet Lightning

Today we had a room inspection with prizes for cleanest room. So Lightning left the room inspector a little present.

Today Lightning visited Pike's Peak! Here's a shot

Lightening hung with us at "The Rock" for small group cabin time today

The day finally came when McQueen brought Daddy (Jeremy) home to us!!!
